Land More Prospects on LinkedIn With the 1-2-3 Formula

**Quick editor’s note: while I’ve heard similar formulas applied to several social platforms, this post was specifically inspired by an Inc Magazine article written by Peter Economy**

The prevailing wisdom in social media marketing and promotion has long been post, post, and post again.

The logic being that the more often you appear in your followers’ feeds, the more likely they are to see your updates and act accordingly.

Meanwhile, those subjected to this approach find it increasingly annoying. And rightly so.

No one wants to see a million sales pitches or enticements to check out “valuable content” that’s really just a precursor to a sales pitch.

With this understanding in mind, what’s a more effective approach?

Simple: Prioritize quality over quantity.

And that’s precisely what the 1-2-3 formula helps you orchestrate.

Here’s how it works:

3 – Share three posts that speak to your prospects’ industry. This could include relevant news, rising trends, or strategies, along with tools and tactics.

2 – Share two posts with insights gained from working in your business, serving clients similar to your prospects.

1 – Share one post with something personal that includes a twist – A story from your life, interactions with family or friends, a chance or random encounter, and relate it to your prospects’ industry.

Why Does The 1-2-3 Formula Work?

It demonstrates your expertise and grounding in your industry, showcases your ability and success in serving clients similar to your prospects, and offers some details from your personal life that humanize you, opening the door to making personal connections.

How to Create The Content to Activate the Formula

Now comes the hard part… If I’ve got the math right, you’ll need to create six pieces of content on at least a biweekly basis.

You could aim to post six updates per week, but that lands you closer to quantity over quality territory.

Stretching it out to six posts over a two-week span makes your posts more meaningful and gives you breathing room with your content creation efforts.

Where do you find content to populate your bi-weekly posts?

Sign up for Google alerts on relevant industry contacts. Sign up for industry email newsletters. Listen to industry-related podcasts. And watch videos on industry-related YouTube channels.

This should provide plenty of fodder for your updates. Plus, your posts don’t need to be long. Just do your best to make a salient point.

Don’t worry about being perfect, as a content creator or writer (or video producer, if that’s the direction you choose to go).

The key here is consistency.

And the sooner you get started, the faster you’ll see results.

Try it this week!
