Copywriting + Marketing Consulting For Professional Service Businesses

Think about the industry leaders in your marketplace for a minute.

It’s probably fair to say they qualify as “well-established.” And while their record may not be spotless, they’re a known quantity that’s proven some measure of consistent success.

They’ve likely invested in savvy marketing. And they’re probably known for doing quality work, providing excellent customer service, and generally being accommodating and easy to deal with.

But while these factors are important and have undoubtedly contributed to their success, another element is more critical to their brand recognition.

Any guesses as to what this might be?

*drumroll please*

Time.

You can pour tons of money and considerable effort into marketing. And you can do the very best work while striving tirelessly to ensure excellent customer service.

But until your business, in the words of Malcolm Gladwell, reaches a “tipping point,” you’re a faceless, unknown quantity. And overcoming this barrier requires… Time.

How long?

According to marketing mastermind, SEO guru, and bestselling author Neil Patel, 10 ten years is the minimum horizon.

Here’s how he described it (phrasing it much better than I could) in a recent Tweet Storm:

It took me 18 years to learn this, and I’ll teach it to you in less than 1 minute.

No matter what your company is or what it does… No matter how much money you raised or didn’t… Or how good you are at marketing or aren’t.

The way you are going to get the sales you want isn’t through SEO, social media, or even paid ads. Sure, those things help, but in the long run, most of your sales will come from word-of-mouth marketing. It will be from people who are familiar with your brand.

But there is a catch… it typically takes 10 years for it to kick in.

So, in the meantime, focus on building an amazing product or service. Focus on building a brand through social media and SEO. But most importantly, if you know you are onto something, don’t give up.

You need to put in 10 years. I know that sounds long but it really isn’t. Time flies when you are having fun.

Just be patient, you’ll get the sales you want, you have to put in the hard work so you can reap the rewards, 10 plus years from now.

If I had known this earlier, I wouldn’t have created as many businesses. I would have focused more… don’t make the mistake I made. Put in your 10 years.
